Minnesota’s newest hiking and mountain biking park opens

Are you looking for trails with plenty of flow, berms, and jumps? You’ll find them at the new mountain biking trails in Braemar Park. The trails that skirt the golf course are laid out in three segments located in the southwest, northwest, and east sections of the golf course in Edina, MN.

Edina has the newest mountain biking park

The east and northwest sections were completed this last summer, offering beginner and intermediate loops with a hiking trail around each parameter. The East segment consists of 2.6 miles of intermediate-to-advanced rated loops and jump lines. The northwest segment is shorter, less than 2 miles.

The south segment is set to open this spring. Once complete, this single-track system will include close to 8 miles of intermediate and advanced trails. View the detailed trail maps here.

The southwest and northwest segments are across the road (Braemar Boulevard) from each other. Parking is available in a lot adjacent to the southwest and northwest segment trailheads and in a lot near the east segment trailhead, right off of Hilary Lane. Trailhead parking is not permitted in the golf course lot.

Twin Cities-based contractor Pathfinder Trail Building will complete the machine-built singletrack in May. Pathfinder recently built the popular Taft Bike Park in Richfield.

Then, according to Edina Park Planner Rachel Finberg. “Once complete, work will focus on removing the buckthorn and other invasive species to move to the next step, promoting and planting new habitat.”

“The nature restoration across the park is a multiyear project, but in four to five years, riders and walkers will be surrounded by a healthy, lush landscape. Biking and walking trails on the west will follow, opening later this year. The boardwalk and trails on the south end, connecting the two sides, will be the last piece. The design and permitting for this area are more complicated due to it weaving through the delicate Nine Mile Creek watershed,” Feinberg said.

As of January 16, the mountain bike trails are currently closed. Winter hiking is still open unless signs show closed. Check the calendar on their website. And sign up for the Parks email newsletter at EdinaMN.gov/Parks.
