Bike Pic March 31, life is more enjoyable running errands by bike

With 30 Days of Biking beginning tomorrow, on April 1st, using a bike to run errands could make life more enjoyable and create less of a carbon footprint. Maybe it’s time to start planning that #NextBikeAdventure. Have you registered for 30 days of biking yet, it’s free.

According to EPA’s emissions and trends, the number of vehicle miles traveled by passenger cars and light-duty trucks increased by 35% from 1990 to 2020. In 2021, greenhouse gas emissions from transportation accounted for about 35% of total U.S. greenhouse gas emissions, making it the second-largest contributor to U.S. greenhouse gas emissions after the Electricity sector. With the continued trend in transportation growth, those emissions rates are predicted to double.

Consider using your bike in tandem with your car, a bus, or a train to run errands, commute to work, or on your next vacation. See more friendly places to ride and explore the new Minnesota Bike/Hike Guide.

Bike Pic Nov 2, multimodal transportation

These cyclists biking around Lake Pepin, on parts of the Mississippi River Trail (MRT), choose  to use another form of transportation to cross the river on the Tour De Pepin ride.

We normally associate bicycling and multimodal transport (also known as combined transport) as cyclists commuting or touring with at least two different types of transportation, normally with a second mode using an airplane, automobile, bus or train. In the photo above cyclists use a paddleboat showing another form of multimodal transportation. Picture from the Tour De Pepin Facebook page.
