Shelly Harvey, of Eden Prairie, Minn. says, “riding in the ADA Tour de Cure was quite literally a life-changing experience for me. And I am not exaggerating in the least - it has changed my life!
At the time, Shelly was obese and hadn’t ridden a bike in 20 years. She didn’t even own a decent bike. She shared with us, "I signed up after feeling a tad coerced by the extremely effective team captain at my company. I felt it was my duty as an employee who leads volunteerism for our organization to participate. But I was afraid. Could I ride a bike? Even seven miles? But I signed up, signed my husband up and we said, with the addition of our two year old son in a bike carrier, we were doing this as a family.”

Even the League of American Bicyclists has recently taken note awarding this city its bronze bicycle friendly community designation. So, if you are in need of a four to seven day getaway, here are some ideas and opportunities that Marcy and I discovered on our latest adventure, in April while it was snowing at home - biking around the Big Easy! |

I have had Type 1 diabetes since 1976. While I have always tried to get in shape, for years my going to the gym was really not much more than checking in, halfheartedly doing a few things and then leaving. Two years, ago I started to occasionally bike to work, but it really was more for the novelty of it than anything else.
Last year, my company sponsored a team for the American Diabetes Association’s (ADA) Twin Cities Tour De Cure and for some reason, I joined them.
