In the article below and several blog interviews with Rails-to-Trails Conservancy, president Keith Laughlin, is now online with electric assist bicycles. In relevance to the ebike industry, Keith said, "he has no problem with allowing electric-assist bicycles on trails as long as they meet the federal definition of an e-bike, but not the electric moped types." |

With the Human Missile taking the first stage of Giro d'Italia, what are your plans for Bike Month and the season ahead?
The Giro d'Italia, started this last Saturday and runs through the 26th, exciting many bicycle racing fans for what lies ahead. This weekend Britian's Mark Cavendish looked to be in trouble when his lead-out man faltered in the final sprint, but the Omega Pharma-Quickstep rider edged Elia Viviani on the line, taking the first stage of this year's Giro. May is also National Bike Month, a time to get out, ride and get ready for the summer biking season.

I have had Type 1 diabetes since 1976. While I have always tried to get in shape, for years my going to the gym was really not much more than checking in, halfheartedly doing a few things and then leaving. Two years, ago I started to occasionally bike to work, but it really was more for the novelty of it than anything else.
Last year, my company sponsored a team for the American Diabetes Association’s (ADA) Twin Cities Tour De Cure and for some reason, I joined them.

We have all heard it before....use protection....
In the late 90's Baz Luhrman released a song called Everybody's free to wear sunscreen... Today, we get so caught up in preparing for our races. We check our equipment, we focus on our nutrition, we work out our split times, check whether we have all our goodies during transition. We try and get race advice online, from other athletes, coaches and magazines. However, I realized after my last couple of races that one of the most important things you need to do during these events is to apply your sunscreen. |

With a wintery April and a major winter snowstorm only six days before this year's Minnesota Ironman Ride, there wasn't much opportunity to train on the bike outdoors. That didn't stop a record number of cyclists from coming out to ride the new routes through the St. Croix River Valley. This year 4,696 cyclists turned out for this 47 annual tradition that kicks off the Spring riding season. The beautiful weather forecast for ride day that was provided by meteorologist Kristin Clark from 2WheelWeather, helped!

Bike thefts have been reduced by putting pictures of staring eyes above cycle racks, researchers have found. A team from Newcastle University decided to test the theory that people behave better when they think they are being watched. For two years they studied crime rates at campus racks and found a drop of 62% at those which displayed eye posters.
