Norwegian Festival In Peterson Adds Gammel Dag Bike Ride

Come join the fun at the 31st annual Gammel Dag Festival and Bike Ride,  in Peterson, Minn. This Scandinavian fest, meaning "good old days" is situated in the scenic Root River Valley and nestled in the heart of historic Bluff Country of southeastern Minnesota.  For this years event, The Fit Tourist, Wahoo Adventures and HaveFunBiking are sponsoring a multi-distance Gammel Dag Bike Ride on Saturday, June 16th.

For those just getting into biking for the season clinics will be offered. HaveFunBiking..Again Clinics, to help get you prepared for a fun season, will be offered on the afternoon of the 15th and before the ride on the 16th. 

The Gammel Dag Bike Ride on Saturday starts with a parade and offers three distance options on a 15, 35 or 65 mile route.  Along each route find refreshment stops and sag support will be provided.  Upon your return, in true Norwegian tradition, dinner and pie will be served at Judy’s Country Kitchen, just off the Root River Trail, in Peterson.  Those riders who choose to follow the 15 or 35 mile route will have the opportunity to ride their bike in the parade before following the designated route out of town.

The cost for the ride, with dinner is $30. The price for the ride and dinner goes up to $35, after June 6th .

For those interested in getting back in the saddle, the "Have Fun Biking...Again" clinics are designed to reintroduce and help you find joy in  bicycling again.  Do you remember how fun it was to ride a bike as a kid and that sense of freedom you had?  Do you see people biking on the trails and wish that could be you?  If you are not already riding confidently, we will help you get back on your bike.  This clinic will provide minor bike maintenance and adjustments for proper fit while providing you with helpful hints to make bike riding safe and enjoyable.  The cost for the clinic is $15 and includes a short bike ride. While you are in Peterson, you should enjoy the Gammel Dag festivities where everyone is Norwegian for the day.  Come in the morning and enjoy the Norwegian folk dancers; artists, vendors and crafts; display by the Vesterheim Museum; go for an Amish buggy ride or visit the Peterson Museum.  After the bike ride and dinner, stay for the street dancing in the evening.   The Gammel Dag Fest is a full day of fun!
